See you on the other side

Screen grabs during isolation

During these times of uncertainty and isolation, people are developing new ways of communicating. This is an invitation to take images of people that you normally would be meeting face to face but now can only see on a screen. Maybe your mother, child, grandfather or friend, they could be next door or on the other side of the world.

It could be a candid or a setup screen grab, or a Facetime call or a Zoom meeting image. The hope is these images will be a small snapshot documenting the precious moments during these unprecedented times, from loneliness and uncertainty to optimism and hope. From the mundane to the meaningful, life continues even in lockdown.

Family Skipe session ( 1 ) Since the beginning of the confinement, March 14 in Spain, the family has been reunited by Skipe. With bad wifi, bad cameras and worse sound. But at least thats how we have kept in touch. After two months we still continue doing so because we live in different regions with different levels of quarentena. Despite the technical barriers, love has raised those barriers and we have been able to share moments. This has been especially important because my father died only a few days before the confinement began © @isolationow

My 3 friends and I have known since primary school and each of our boyfriends have gradually been welcomed into our little group. Two live in Manchester with their boyfriends and one lives down in Birmingham with hers while I'm in Liverpool but currently long distance with my boyfriend who lives down in Leamington Spa. We keep up with each other at least once a week and were all together online one night for a quiz but my boyfriend was busy so I grabbed the nearest photo of him (which just so happened to be his graduation photo) and made sure he was included in the photo in spirit © Lucy Scott

All fun and games, although deep down I’m feeling devastated that I have no idea when I’ll be able to see my mum again. She had pneumonia last year and turned 70 in Feb, so is high risk and not keen to fly for obvious reasons. I guess I’ll eventually try to fly there (Trump permitting?!) and quarantine myself for 2 weeks before I see her... trying not to think about it too much, it’s too depressing. © Helen Gilchrist
